Inspirational Quotes
« on: February 23, 2011, 02:33:34 PM »
What are your favorite quotes and why? This can be Parkour related or not, it doesen't really matter

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing."
       - Albert Einstein

Also...

"It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything."
       - Tyler Durden

I like both of these because they, for me, make me think about my life in a bigger way, I only have this one, I should make something of it
Zechariah 14:12
And the LORD will send a plague on all the nations that fought against Jerusalem. Their people will become like walking corpses, their flesh rotting away. Their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.

"That rush, that drug, that dope; Those pills, that crumb, that roach. Thinkin' I would never do that, not that drug."

"And trust me, it's not dope to be 25 and move back to your parents basement."

"Room spinnin' thinkin' he might've sipped just a little bit too much of that cough syrup, eyelids close shut, sat back in the chair clutchin' that cup. Girlfriend came and a couple hours later said his name, shook him but he never got up. He never got up, he never got up; We live on the cusp of death thinkin' that it won't be us."

All three are from the song Otherside by Macklemore

Why? That song has a deep personal meaning to me and is a big inspiration.

"So without imagination, you would just be doing everything society tells you, and... society's not always right." - Tim 'Livewire' Schieff

Why? I dunno, I like not being one of those kids that can be categorized easily.

"Sometimes I wonder if there really is a deeper meaning to life. The question eats at my psyche like a radioactive, glowing, dachshund that gnaws at the boot of it's master. And then I remember grilled cheese sandwiches, and my mind is at peace."
"Hi! I'm Mark Toorock from American Parkour. Today, we're going to be showing you parkour."

I will crush my mental blocks into a fine powder, and then I will construct a fabulous Zen garden.

"Your current safe boundaries were once unknown frontiers."
- One of the Tapp brothers

"Every infant lives in a bright garden where everything is sensed directly, without the interference of thought. The fall from grace happens to each of us when we start thinking and become namers and knowers. The birth of the mind is the death of the senses. As a child, all this would appear before your eyes and ears and touch as if for the first time. But now you’ve learned names and categories for everything. That’s good, that’s bad, that’s a table, that’s a chair, that’s a car, a house, a flower, dog, cat, chicken, man, woman, sunset, ocean, star…you’ve become bored with things because they only exist as names to you. The dry concepts of the mind obscure your vision."
- Way of the Peaceful Warrior

"We are all stardust."
- Carl Sagan

"Down there, we know. On the streets, we know. But here? Nobody has been here."
- David Belle

"There are two simultaneous processes. One is insight - the willing of attention, the channeling of awareness to focus precisely on what you want to see. The other process is surrender - letting go of all arising thoughts. That is real meditation; that is how you cut free of the mind."
- Way of the Peaceful Warrior

"Use whatever knowledge you have but see its limitations. Knowledge alone does not suffice; it has no heart. No amount of knowledge will nourish or sustain your spirit; it can never bring you ultimate happiness or peace. Life requires more than knowledge; it requires intense feeling and constant energy. Life demands right action if knowledge is to come alive."
- Way of the Peaceful Warrior

"A state of mind when you are performing a movement that is neither too simple nor too complex. Your focus rules out all other mental processes; your mind has no time for words, worries, or distractions. There is only timing, spatial awareness, and the feeling of satisfaction as you reach your goal."
- (forgot)

"In the midst of movement and chaos, keep stillness inside of you."
- (forgot)

"We can learn from the past, but those days are gone. We can hope for the future, but there may not be one. These words stuck in my mind, alive from what I learned, I went to seize the day."
- Dream Theater

Power, balance, freedom.

These are all from various books I read and collect the quotes from... a few of my favorites (if anyone wants, I'll dig up the book):

"Successful people do the things that unsuccessful people refuse to do."
-Just something that keeps me going and answers that question that comes up so often, "Why am I doing this?"/"Why should I do this?"

"Losing is a habit. So is winning."
-To keep my focus not on a individual success (though it should be celebrated) but instead on a process of success after success after success.

"Success is something you attract by the person you become."
-This is something you'd only understand by the books I'm reading.

"The real growth happens with what you do AFTER you hit the wall."
-We all hit the wall sometimes. It's important to know that that is the best, if not the only, time to continue.

"He who has a why to live for can bear any how." (I know this one is Fredrick Nietzsche)
-If I have too much trouble with my "how," I start reconsidering and revising my "why." Sometimes you just need a little work reminding yourself of your why.

The water is your friend.  You don't have to fight with water, just share the same spirit as the water, and it will help you move.

“Variety's the very spice of life, That gives it all its flavor” - William Cowper

“Blood is just red sweat.” - Enson Inoue

---

Each of these has a meaning to me, but I'm not going into a big in depth explanation about them.

"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you Crom, so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!"
---Conan the Barbarian

"As we become adults, we get lazier. We wish to grow up. We wish to be respected. But somewhere along the way we lose sight of who we are. Once you get old, it's hard to get it back...the urge to fight things that don't make sense."

"Because we do not know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. And yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you cannot conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, or five times more? Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless..." - Brandon Lee before his death on the set of the crow, can be seen if you have the special edition DVD

"When it comes time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home."
