EcoDrink Daily
« on: March 02, 2011, 02:18:08 PM »
So check this out: http://www.sgnnutrition.com/-ecodrinkdaily.html

My grandmother got me that. She's so sweet. But on the box, there's so much "This product is the greatest thing ever"-ish bullshit that I just don't know. Tastes great, though!

What do you think?

Doesn't look too bad...

My strategy though is to use a full-on multivitamin and whatever other supplements I need. Then I just take twist tubes when I need 'em (getting sick, after a hard lifting workout, etc).

If you currently don't take multivitamin, these aren't a bad idea.

Excellent, but after some googling, I found out it has splenda.

And today,, while training, I felt really weird and my vision blurred and now I have a terrible headache.

Could these things be related?

The body doesn't really absorb vitamins well when they're not in real foods.

Eat real foods. Avoid these kinds of products.

Sounds like you're dehydrated. Did you substitute this for water intake?

Nope.  Had one in the morning but drank water during training.

I'll have some more water, my head still hurts.

I highly doubt it.  I would bet it has to do with other factors.  But as it so happens...  We don't know without running tests.  Anyway, multivitamins don't cause blurred vision and headaches.  Food allergies don't cause blurred vision and headaches.  So very unlikely.

Well these are "supplements" meaning that they'll help pick up what you don't get through your food intake. As with everything, getting too much of a vitamin can be a bad thing, but usually you'll just pee out what your body doesn't absorb (except when you're taking WAY more than recommended)

You'd be better off saving your money and drinking water....

Of course. But keep in mind: This was a gift from my grandmother. I'm all set for about a month of this stuff and when it's over she'll probably ask me if I liked them. And when I say that I did (It would be rude to say no) she'll probably buy me some more.

So there's that.

So it's useless, but not harmful.

Excellent, but after some googling, I found out it has splenda.

They are directly related. Splenda uses a substance called Aspartame, which is an artificial sweetener. Many people are allergic to Aspartame, and for good reason. A part of its chemical composition is straight up poison for the body.

Aspartame can be broken into three chemical substances. Aspartic Acid, Phenylalanine, and Methyl Ester. Aspartic acid is an amino acid that breaks down the Thyroid, which is hugely responsible for your metabolism operating well. So too much aspartic acid, which is found everywhere nowadays, will help you become less efficient at burning your fuels properly. Phenylalanine is also an amino acid that is currently under study for the breaking down of the blood brain barrier. And the king of them all, Methyl Ester. Methyl Ester, when swallowed, becomes free methyl alcohol. Otherwise known as Methanol. Which is a poison. Legit.

So for obvious reasons, many people have averse reactions to Aspartame, which often include headache. So, avoid things that use false sweeteners like diet sodas, artificial sweeteners, and so on. Better just to put some sugar in your system and turn it into glucose.
