Some random kid showed me the parkour roll awhile ago, I became obsessed.

While watching YouTube i frequently came across parkour videos and always wanted to do crazy flips and kongs and what not, luckily there were some guys at my school a couple grades up that were pros at parkour, so i asked if i could train with them and they said they would show me the ways, so i started training with them and that's how i got to were i am today, doing front flips off stumps and konging picnic tables :)

I got motivated to start doing parkour when a couple years ago, I was doing the side vaults over fences without even knowing it was a side vault and a kid asked if I knew parkour. I then learned the word parkour and I searched up the word parkour and I went through video by video watching the different vaults, but the match that lit the fuse for my inspiration was the double kong. From that time then, I had been training parkour and slowly moving into tricking and I am teaching one grasshopper about parkour.

Oddly enough I just answered this question in the "Why are you doing this" thread.  Maybe it should get moved here.

I had a friend that did parkour and freerunning, he asked me if I knew what it was and I said no. So he showed me some videos and taught me some really basic vaults and now 5 months later, I've been training hard, going to parkour gyms and enjoying life  :D

I'm older than most (currently 45), and wouldn't say that I'm 100% Traceur, but I progressed into Parkour after playing Tag and wanted to challenge myself, & others that I played with, by increasing the complexity of the environment that we played in. I still play Tag, but I also like to use Parkour to train.

Ever since I was like 5 I loved to run, jump, climb around everything. Then when I was about 12 I found a name for it, Parkour. I live in a really small town with no gym or anything or many good training areas so for years I just watched videos on YouTube. First video I had ever seen was Damien Walters 2010 showreel and I was completely hooked from their. Utterly fascinated, but too afraid to gonout and do it. I always thought wow, I wish I could do that. Just 2 years ago (15) I started actually going out and training, however I could Now I'm just trying to find people others around me who share in this beautiful sport

I start parkour/freerunning about 6 years ago, when my friend showed me a video online of people jumping off of buildings. I though it was so cool I started looking up videos online and saved up for a trampoline. Once I got my trampoline I was able to practice more complicated flips and tricks that I now have on grass.

(Copied from my training journal entry)

I think I kinda owe it to my older brother (we'll call him T). Back in 2011, when I was 14, T got his hands on this cool-looking game (you're gonna cringe) called Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. Yeah, I liked the game a lot. But the part that I liked the MOST about it was the cool ninja stuff in the game they called "free-running". I always thought it was cool to see them jump gaps and run up the walls. I think T showed me some videos of people doing the same thing the assassins were doing, and it was called "parkour". I was absolutely floored that it was a real thing and so many people actually practiced it, and I searched for a parkour gym right away. There was one nearby in Livonia, called Freedom Freerunning Academy (closed down, but re-opened as Phoenix Freerunning Academy), and it held classes and open gyms and such. I went there for my 15th birthday on August 26, 2012 (super significant date to me) for a beginner's class, and it was extra cringey now that I look back on it. Even though I was a beginner, I was so awful. I had no balance for pre's, I literally SMACKED into a wall on a wall run attempt, and I was wearing Converse and regular jeans. But I had a lot of fun, and I practiced on my own for a while. I've been involved in the community, made a ton of amazing memories and friends, and been on a path towards self-improvement ever since.

TL;DR: Older brother introduced me to AC: Brotherhood/showed me vids of freerunners, took a beginner class on my 15th bday, been practicing since then and have made a ton of friends and good experiences along the way.

I started midway through 2012, sometime in July or August. My uncle had gotten me into it. But I had already seen a video of people doing parkour. I had originally asked him if he knew what parkour was, and he told me that he started practicing it. So I asked him if he could take me under his wing and teach me as he progresses as wel. I find parkour an extention of the physical nature of humans, coming from walking on all fours, then evolving to Homo Erectus, which is the predecessor to both Homo Neanderthal and Homo Sapien. Being where we are now, I think that we have made that additional evolution to going up and down, left and right, all over the place. Parkour has honestly given me the ability to do what the majority of the population of the world can't. I can make a fight or flight evaluation if I need to, as well as being able to scare the shit out of people with all of the things I can do with parkour XD

Good luck...

For me it is very simple. I love the flow and how the body moves when I do parkour:-) It is amazing! I makes me feel like I'm a kid again!
