Parkour Nickname help?
« on: September 03, 2010, 02:23:22 PM »
I'm curious as to what some good nicknames would be. I can't think of anything good and I'd really like to have one as I just recently joined up with the local Kansas City Parkour group. Any ideas? My name is Collin, I'm 5'11", I'm partially Italian, work with the fire department and I'm pretty strong, if that helps for ideas?

Parkour nicknames came about as a result of using forums.  So your nick name is your forum name.

What happens is People take your forum name and use it in real life when they meet you at jams.

Thus I get called Fox alot.

I have seen a guy whos forum name was MathewLeeWillis and MLW.  Had him go to Jams and be called MLW and Mathewleewillis no pause between the names.  So it works in funny ways.  I hope this helps.

I've found that you earn nicknames. They aren't given.

After reading the info that you've told us, I've put a lot of thought into this extremely important part of your parkour career. Here's what I've come up with...

CollinRunner is what i would suggest you change it to.  That way your not giving out your whole name but its close.

What is the obsession with people having these "nicknames" just to practice parkour?

I just don't get it. And, frankly, I think it is ridiculous.

Maybe they think it helps them get recognized? Or makes them better?

I don't know about you, but when I think of all the greats, I think of their names, not their "team names."

Daniel Ilabaca
David Belle
Foucan
Tim Shieff
Ryan Doyle
Damien Walters
Brian Orosco
Levi

Why can't we just use our names?  ???

Levi and Brian have nicknames that started as forum names.
Skynative
NoSole

Skynative
NoSole

I know.

When I think of them I still think of their actual names, though. If I was trying to tell someone else about their performances on Ninja Warrior, I wouldn't refer to them as Skynative or NoSole. I'd say Brian Orosco and Levi Meeuwenberg(I totally had to look up the spelling).

It just seems rather silly to me.

Well, my name is actually Ryan, and my last name starts with a G, but one day someone randomly started calling me Bryan, so "Bran G" is what I'm called now :)

Nicknames are used either when people don't know your name or when they know you enough to use the name. My own nickname is "Texas" because I lived there before. Nicknames are not necessary for parkour, though.

Nicknames can differentiate members of a group and/or tell who is in a particular group. I have a three different nicknames in three entirely different places with three entirely different groups (none of them are for PK).

I will still keep my name on here, but the local group said that they would like me to come up with some sort of nickname, but I do not know what I should use.
