Canadian Wildfires = No Parkour
« on: June 02, 2010, 03:03:25 AM »
Some lightning touched down a bunch of times in canada and set a series of fires, and a couple are now burning out of control. Due to a southernly wind, the smoke is blowing over parts of New England (in the Northeast for those who don't know). My town has been completely enveloped in a fog-like smoke for a few days now. Officials are saying not to do any strenuous activity outside.  :'(

(yes I realize I sound a little selfish with my "oh no canada is on fire, the smoke is unfortunate to me" attitude, but I don't care)
Heck with drugs and alcohol. I get high off exercise. Feel those endorphins pump.
We all come from the same place, all trying to get to point B.

While inhaling smoke of any kind is bad for you, if it's not bad enough to make you cough, you should be ok. Those "official" comments are typically aimed at old fat guys, who even with good air start sucking wind at an easy walking pace. I wouldn't go all out, but something moderate should be just fine.

If you have a gas mask, wear that while training. Otherwise, I'm sure you could find some decent indoor stuff, or you could pace yourself outside. Basic vaults and rolling, I don't think qualify as "strenuous" activity. Do them too often, and yeah, they can be dangerous, but doing them casually should be OK.

I would be better off with PKquebec or something... if they exist

It isn't super thick, but I have had a sore throat since Sunday.

They would help reduce dust, but they make you re-breathe some of your air, so A) you don't get as much oxygen, and B) you don't get as much of a cooling effect. It's much hotter in one of those.

Perhaps I will spend some time doing indoor workouts. This is a good time to start building that vault box I have been striving for.

*edit* the smoke has also gotten a ton worse. a breeze brought a new cloud, and visibility is down to 100 yards or so.

You would be able to notice. trust me.
It shouldn't hit NY anyway, because it started somewhere around Quebec and there is a SE wind I guess...
