I run weird.
« on: May 29, 2010, 06:13:16 PM »
It is very easy to notice when I'm on camera. I did learn that I have been running heel-toe, and I'm working on not doing that anymore. I also believe I have lousy foot placement. Though I don't really do stutter steps anymore, I have been struggling to get into a sweet stride for wallclimbs and such.

Is there anything I can do to work on that?
Heck with drugs and alcohol. I get high off exercise. Feel those endorphins pump.
We all come from the same place, all trying to get to point B.

To plan for steps for any technique (kong, dash, wallclimb), simply look at the ground. In your head, place big dots where your feet will step. Measure how much your desired stride is (e.g. 4 feet) and start running as you planned. If you mess up, go back and try again. Then try again. Then try again.

Now that you have enough practice, the  strides come to you naturally. :) Good luck!

so more or less, I have to plan them out backwards from the obstacle as I am running...

Just divide the distance into strides, run the strides. Your brain will get used to it, and you won't have to look at the ground anymore.

In one word: Practice. It solves everything, ma' man. :)

Try it tomorrow, and give me feedback.

Doing some barefoot running every once in a while will help A LOT. Trust me

If you have to just slow down running up to an obstacle during your training to figure out where your foot placement will end up. After you get used to looking a head and judging where you're going to be it should start to become natural for you to look ahead and feel the correct stride pattern to put you where you want to go. As your running youll be able to quickly adjust your strides to fit the placement you want. Its kind of the same way that when you first start to do say precisions, you look at something and you wonder if you can jump that far, after a while it becomes natural to look at something and you just know where you can go and how much power it takes.

haha... didn't know about that.

Anyway, I played with foot placement with wallclimbs and kongs. I found that knowing exactly where to put my feet helps my kongs a ton. I also noticed that if I use really long strides for my wallclimbs, not only am I forced to run on my toes, I get more height, and it is 10x easier to plan my steps, because there is fewer of them.

"figured it out" seems to imply I don't run weird anymore.

I simply realized how to improve
