Tell me, umm, exactly why would the TOPS of the shoes need to be water repellant, to be able to "walk on water"? The rubber soles on all our shoes are completely water repellant. (That would be the part that hits the water while you are "running" on it.)
Look up these concepts: Surface tension. Weight distribution. Displacement. Angle of attack.
I will say, though, they did a great job. It was very entertaining.
