Body awareness
« on: January 24, 2010, 08:25:47 PM »
I realized that whenever I try a handstand I can't hold it correctly because I don't know how hard I need to push my legs to mantain balance wihtout using extra force. Does anyone have any tips for improving besides doing handstands against a wall?

Well, here's a pretty good tutorial with lots of tips and tricks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StyIiNQ4dLo

But for the specific problem, just yesterday I started using one of the tricks in the video. It's to kick one leg all the way up, then bring up the second leg behind it. It really helps you judge the amount of force used and position of the leg before completely lifting both legs off the ground. I couldn't find where in the video it was, but you'll see it if you watch the whole thing :) :P

Now I can get into freestanding handstands pretty easily with that trick. ;D

Oh, I thought moved threads had a "this was moved from: blah blah section" tagged on them... on second thought, maybe it's just from the other direction...
