Senior Paper - Parkour!
« on: January 07, 2010, 04:58:04 PM »
So I've decided to write my senior paper on Parkour and the philosophy.  I'm planning on purchasing the "Parkour and Freerunning Handbook" by Dan Edwards. I was going to buy this book anyway but it will help me have some references to cite when writing my paper.  For one of my sources i need to interview someone, and was wondering if anyone out there on the forums could help, preferably one of the senior members, but anyone who has had experience will do.  Does anyone know any articles in magazines that talk about Parkour?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I'm also thinking about quoting APK articles, because they have more insight on what I want to talk about, and it's easier to find than digging through the whole internet.

What kind of paper you writing??? that would help us help you...

Regardless I'd suggest tracking down someone in your community, that way you can do it face to face and flesh out some good details you might miss out on by simply trading emails.  Articles in magazines are sketchy source of info, cause all they are trying to do is sell magazines and consequently the transfer knowledge is usually low on the list of priorities for writers who work for magazines.  APK, has it's own articles you could check out though...written by traceurs for traceurs is kind of a nice quality control.   Watch Point A - B it's a nice little documentary on PK.

Its a research paper, and one of the requirements for the paper is 7 different sources, including a book, a magazine, the internet, and an interview.  I live in northern New Mexico and there aren't many traceurs here so someone close might be Albuquerque, I'll see if i can contact the Parkour club there.

Yeah,  I haven't decided on a direction for my paper or what my thesis is going to be, but I'm sure it will come to me. And I'll definitely post when i've completed it, you guys will probably see it before my teacher does haha

I still need to interview someone and my "local" area people aren't responding and there is almost no activity on the New Mexico part of the forum. Any ideas?

interview people on here. post the questions that you want to ask and we will post the answers. that counts as an interview right?

For citations, I recommend a website called easybib.com. You can just input the data, or sometimes just the website's URL and it will organize the data into an MLA citation, and save multiple citations for reference later. Having access to citiations anywhere is always nice, especially when you're working with a lot of them like you, me, and Jacob.

I still need a personal interview for my project, and I tried to contact someone "local" but there really aren't any traceurs around here. Is it possible to interview someone over the phone or by email?

Ryan-
A couple of quick things.
I'm sure it would be more than fine to do email or phone interviews.  Bear in mind that if you do email, you have the interviews documented verbatim, but if you do over phone, you can understand inflection better.
As far as citation goes, I am a writing tutor at my college, and so I feel it apt for me to pass along some advice.  Easybib is a good site, however, you do need to double check your citations before you submit them; sometimes the citations are wrong.  Also, if you need some general writing and citations tips, go to the Online Writing Lab of Purdue University.  http://www.owl.english.purdue
It is a fantastic site.  Also, if you need any assistance editing or fixing up your paper, just shoot me a message :)
Good luck!
