District B-13: Best Parkour Movie?
« on: August 18, 2006, 01:46:26 PM »
Personally I think District B-13 is the best parkour movie ever made.  We all know what David Belle is capable of, but Cyril Raffaello proved he is one of the best.  The DVD is supposed to have all kinds of extra footage and special features, should be pretty sweet.  Any thoughts on DB-13 as the best parkour film ever?

I wouldn't say it's a parkour movie. I know it has parkour in it. But it's an action film. And Cyril is more of a tricker, but yea, he can definetly keep up with David Belle

I want to see the movie badly, But I know that there is some bad stuff too. Why is it rated R?

There a lot of movies with parkour in them (Ong-Bak and Kiss of the Dragon to name two), but DB-13 is one that could be categorized as a parkour film.  I agree with Pyro, it is an action film but at the same time it stars Belle and Cyril so it was obviously designed to appeal to parkour fans.

Google Yamakasi, and Yamacacu, both films feature the group known as Yamakasi, and they have some awesome stuff in them.  I'd consider them Parkour movies.

so no one reallly answered my question....is DB-13 the best parkour movie out there?  or for those who do not consider it a parkour movie, how do the parkour scenes compare to those in other movies?

Ong-bak doesn't really have parkour in it. It does have good chase sequences though. But i would have to say i like B13's sequences better. I also like B13's story.

The Yamakasi do not practice Parkour.  Neither of their films can be considered Parkour films.  Calling B13 a Parkour film is stretching it, too.  Calling a film with a great chase sequence a Parkour film is GREATLY stretching it.

My interpretation of "Parkour Movie" is any film that has stuff in it that a practitioner of Parkour, free running, or whatever you might want to call it, might want to see.  I'm pretty sick of this nitpicking over what is parkour, and what isn't.  I got intersested in whatever it is that you want to call it, when I saw a film of David Belle running, jumping, climbing, and FLIPPING all over the place.  When we open a topic with the word Parkour, in it, must we always explain to the people that give a hooey about the definition, that we mean, Parkour, Free running, or whatever the Blah, Blah is that the Yamakasi do (looks really similar to me).  I just assumed that anyone who loves this stuff might like to see Yamakasi, or Yamacacu, because it's got some amazing stuff in it, (although there is a lot of wire work too).  To me it's more a Parkour movie, than your average Jackie Chan film, even though there's some good stuff in a lot of those too.
