why not to run from the cops (even though you can)
« on: June 12, 2009, 05:46:42 AM »
Recently me and my friend where practicing out behind this mall and a cop rolls up and gets out of his car my buddy runs, i stay. he got arrested i didn't

1. if you get reported for parkour the people will probably tell you there gonna call the cops if you don't leave (a good time to get out of there)
2. if you run their definitely going to arrest you
3. looks bad
4. traceur shouldn't be synonymous with skate punk (we're way better)
5. cops tend let you off with a warning the first time if you explain what your doing

You do have a point. my self and a friend were practicing and a cop asked what we were doing, we told him some stuff about parkour while we kept training! he said i will be back, drove off and came back like 15 minutes later and told us that it was ok to practice here as long as we didn't hurt anything! also he said he thought we were going to run from all of our movements we were making. LOL

It is a common rule of thumb for law enforcement that if you run it means you have something to be guilty about or a reason to be running. Then the cops get really suspicious and they will take it to whatever level they want at that point. Like your friend found out, getting arrested, possibly searched and their ID run for anything they might have done. Its a shame your friend had to figure out the hard way. It is always better to stay calm and explain, and also to take any warnings from security guards to leave or move away.

On a side note, not in exact reference to your case. Once you have been warned to vacate a facility by any employee and you don't, you are now technically trespassing and can be legally arrested. This includes malls and parking lots; just because they allow everyone in does not make them public property. Stay safe.

what in the hell would possess you to run from an officer because you were training?

you need to slap some sense into your friend, hes a blooming idiot. about 70% of the people i explain parkour to love it, this includes police.
next time he goes to run ask the officer if you can chase him down and bring him back. that way the cops dont have to get pissed off because some punk made them get out of their car and run.

I'm on a first name basis with the cops. Not because I ran, but I stopped and explained it to them and now some of the younger cops TRAIN WITH ME.

i have been considering asking the police to train with me, i think it would be quite the eye opener for them.

i just dont think they would see it worth their time, i mean my area isnt known for its foot chases haha.

Yeah, but it's always worth a shot. Better safe than sorry for the cops if they can't chase someone on foot what can they do?

shoot them in the ass. HAHAHAHA

just kidding but that would be funny hearing somebody yell out "AHHH HE SHOT ME IN THE ASS"

But seriously dont run from the cops, be friendly and respectful and you should be just fine.

I absolutely agree. Running from authorities is a horrible idea. Kudos:)

4. traceur souldent be synonomous with skate punk (we're way better)

I know plenty of skaters that are really respectful guys. Do actually know anything about the skate scene, or are you just stereotyping?... Which I find ironic btw. You dont want to be judged, but haha yea....
This post was based off of my personal gatherings. Enjoy:)

Yeah, like a cop would let you do that...

"Hey can I run towards my friend and 'bring him back here'?"

"Sure, but you better come back."

"Okay officer."

It wouldn't really happen. The cop would get suspicious no matter what your intentions were.

Liek srsly.

Actually, yes. Your post seemed like it was in all seriousness, every last word. In fact I don't think you could actually say that sentence with relevant sarcasm.

Things seemed to be getting a little heated. Lets stay on topic.

I've never understood why people run from the cops when they know they arent doing anything bad. I think its mostly to show off or because they think that "cool/badass kids" run from the police. To be honest, running from the police does not make you a badass. It shows how immature and incompetent you are. Idk if any of you watch the TV show Cops, but there are so many examples on there of people running from the police because of some minor infraction that they probably only would have gotten a warning from. Instead they run and end up getting tackled by three 200 pound guys and arrested. ???

me and a couple buddies were practicing the other day and this bicycle cop came up and started talking to us and surprisingly he knew what we were doing and we talked for a good 10 minutes about it. But he told us to go somewere else cause he didnt want the drunk homeless people watching us then trying what we were doing and getting hurt since he didnt wanna fill out paperwork.
But yeah its a bad idea to run from the police. Especially for doing something that is not illegal like practicing parkour
