Hip joint concern
« on: March 21, 2009, 04:44:47 AM »
From a standing position when I raise my right knee, upon returning the leg to it's normal position I hear and feel a grinding/popping noise in the hip joint. This also occurs at times when I do sit ups. Any advice?

Unless it's painful, it's probably fine. Lots of people have this (listen to any ballet class, during grands battements it sounds like a room full of popcorn) :)

I forget what causes it but  attention to your alignment will probably help with the popping if it bothers you that much. As to which way to set the alignment, I can't say without seeing you; but stuff like this almost always results from a wacky tilt in the pelvis.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, that's the extent of my knowledge. Others with better information will probably be able to give you something more useful.

Stretch/massage/tennis ball/foam roll all the muscles around your pelvis especially hip flexors.

See if that helps.
