Parkour to relieve stress/anxiety
« on: June 06, 2006, 01:21:08 PM »
Hey, I'm kind of just wondering.  I've learned that exercise relieves stress and anxiety and usually calms a human being down if one is stressed/fatigued/anxious/nervous/upset/sad, or any other negative emotion the human being can feel.  I'm just wondering if any of you Parkour to relieve that stress if you're upset.  The reason I ask this is cuz I'm upset over some ex g/f issues and I really feel like PKing right now, but there's nowhere to do it, lol.  Anyway, do you guys do it?

I have anger problems, to work it off i go do some pk, or other physical activity. I hate not having anywhere to go to PK. My usual places are Downtown, at the colledge, and in a larger town a hour away. The problem is, The police got on to me a couple days ago, that rules out down town, The colledge (SP CAN"T SPELL IT) is in session, so not there, and my dad dosn't want to drive me to evansville. So i just go drill in my backyard. Aaah life blows sometimes.

I have a porch rail at my house, a tree in my backyard, a pickup truck, trash cans, hay bails, and some other stuff. Enough to keep me occupied for a while.

I definitely do. I think that we're meant to be moving a good majority of the day. Without this natural movement we get anxious and/or totally stressed. Pracitcing Parkour and working out helps keep me sane, for sure :D

One aspect is the physiological changes that take place during intense physical activity that leave you feeling euphoric and relaxed. The other aspect is the sense of accomplishment when you go out and nail something that you didn't have down perfectly before. If you guys keep training and go out every day with your eyes wide open to all of the possiblities, you will find more than you think each successive time. Good luck and have fun! :D

Thanks Gear. I just really go back into parkour a couple months ago, and just got REALY REALY into parkour since B)east coast. I've been going out twice a day almost every day since. Every since then i've been feeling much better, mentaly, and physically. More relaxed, and it's harder to get mad.  ;D

advice for those with nowhere to parkour: just run.  Go out for a hard four miler, or a relaxed longer run, and that'll do the trick.

I'm prolly lazy to do that too.  I actually think I run about 6 miles in the summer...two ways though (I did last year at least, and ill do it again this summer).  Not 6 one way...thats too much.  I take a break after i get to my destination and take like a 30 minute break tho.
