Ok, maybe I should take this oppurtunity to say "DON"T TRY IT! if these are the results your getting."  As I said before, it's a MASSIVE mental block move, and your likely to mess up the techique by holding back and end up hurting yourself.  I went through somegood solid preparation before originaly trying the move.  All I can do is promise that it is possible, seriously I use it all the time, I didn't just post an impossible move for laughs, just to see how many fools I could get to injure themselves trying it. :)

If you still want to try and learn it here are some tips on preparation:

Find a rail on level ground and begin by simply performing a monkey, landing where comfortable, then try gradually to retain your grip into the landing.  Once you can do this (shouldn't take long)

Gradually move your landing area closer and closer to the base of the rail untill you can confidently land with heels at the rail.

Now you can try it on unlevel ground, though I don't recomend trying to large of a drop at first because you will likely want to bail the first couple of times, or worse, you will not make the right foot placement, and might end up in Asa's spike pit scenario ;)

I also recommend avoiding areas with wheeled spike pits, if possible.

Finally, you may want to experiment with hand placement, palms up is a little easier on the shoulders and allows somewhat more secure grip going into the point of no return  (the other side of the rail)  but this is really only a mental issue, as palms down grip is fine and it really won't let you down.  The downside of palms up; everything else:  It leaves you pretty much dependant on your jump alone to get you over the rail, and your hands are left behind the rail meaning that it will likely not be them that breaks your fall in the event of a bail, but instead; your face :)

Basicly I recommend palms down all the way, no different than the approach to a monkey!

Judging by the fate of the last two guys though, I recommend that you not try it if your unsure, untill I can post a video and get detailed with the teqnique.

this is funny...I just really wish I could see you do it.  You know it pretty good because there are a lot of people that cant even dash rails...so good job.  I might use it on the street sometime...just for you eheh.

ok well i jammed with quazar today so i got to see first hand what all the fuss was about.

it is basically just a monkey vault where your legs come through, go over the rail, and land on the other side close to the rail. your hands never come off the rail in this move.

it wasnt as hard on the shoulders as i thought either. basically imagine doing a monkey vault into a tucked l-sit, and then let your legs back down on the other side. start out slow and controlled.

the move could be practical i suppose. the main drawback to this move is it cant be done with speed or else you probably will rip your shoulders out.

Alright, finally on video thanks to the tempest ocean2ocean freerunning tour.  :)

You should see one or two of these in their final production.

I know I know, it took someone else filming me to get this out on video... what do you want from me! ::)

Yeah, sorry, there's no blood, dismemberment, or wheeled spike pits in my version.  Dissappointing I know, but I try my best

I don't think gargoyle vaults are as bad as everybody is making them seem. i mean, even if you have to slow down a little before hand (and i don't think you have to slow down at all if you have good-perfect technique) it makes up for it when you are on the other side. I can gargoyle vault to a precision much faster than i can turn to a precision. Being able to see your landing area makes things a whole lot easier and less scary. Also, they aren't that awkward at all. I think it is more the thought of it that is awkward. The first few times seem awkward (and what vault doesn't seem awkward at first?) but after a while they are just as easy as any other vault. Idk if the tempest guys are gonna post a video or pictures from when they went to colorado springs but we did one for them and it shows when they could be handy. So if they post any more pics or vids just look out for it.

sounds like a good way to dislocate my shoulders.

Oh and whats up psycosis12? this is pk_jman from colorado. how's the DC area?
