just wondering how come they have a smooth flat bottom?

From what i've heard, the flatter the shoe, the better. If you have a flat shoe (but still flexible) you have more surface area on the ground. If you have more surface area, you have better grip.

That might be why they're flat.

Think racing tires; they are wide and flat and smooth so that they grip the road or track.  They took this and applied it to shoes and concrete.

But yea, as long as you have decent rubber, the more surface area means that the force of friction will be higher (on most surfaces). A lot of people get to thinking that shoes with a lot of tread will be grippiest but those are more for mud and stuff, not flat surfaces

Been fine for me, but I haven't been doing a lot of cats and stuff where the shoe will be sliding against a surface usually.
