How did you vote?
« on: November 08, 2008, 04:31:27 PM »
Now that the smoke has cleared from the election, I think it's safe to tell how we all voted.  I'll go first.

I used a black, fine-point, felt-tip marker and filled in the ovals next to my selections.  When I completed the ballot, I took the ballot over to a machine which tabulates the votes.  It's a pretty neat system.  It tabulates electronically while keeping a paper trail.  Either that or it shreads the ballot and makes up its own numbers.  I never have figured it out.

I waited in a long line for the polls to open, but the line moved blazing fast.  With literally over a hundred people in front of me, it took only about fifteen minutes for me to complete voting!

Anyway, that's how I voted.  How about you?

Lol, did you actually read what he said? I think not.

Kind of a waste of a topic but it's still funny.

Interesting.  I prefer a Mirado Black Warrior.  Much better erasing potential.

Dude, it's not politics. He wants to know how your district collects and records votes. This has NOTHING to do with anyone's political opinions or beliefs.

Just don't let it go that way.

It's not politics. As long as politics stays out of the thread, I'll keep it open.

I faxed in my request for an absentee ballot (I'm away at school), it arrived a few days later. I joked about filling it in with pencil, then I picked up a pen and got serious. Then I read the directions and it said use a pencil. So I filled in a few bubbles, then did some research, then filled in a few more. I spent 15 minutes figuring out the envelope they provided, then dropped it in the mailbox and completed my civic duty.

I didn't, I'm not old enough. But I went with my parents, and then went into this metal booth and shut the curtain with a lever. Then they moved a series of levers, until they hit the last one which opened the curtain and reset the machine, counting their votes. Then they got a cute little sticker, which they promptly stuck on my forehead.

Kind of a waste of a topic but it's still funny.

Yeah, ain't I a stinker?

Although originally intended as a joke which I was sure would brighten somebody's day (with a little bait-and-switch), at the same time I heard of a variety of different voting experiences here in my local area.  And in some states you darken in circles, ovals, or squares.  Others still use pull levers, and others are straight electronic.  I thought it would genuinely be interesting to find out what others experienced.

I don't know how my district did it. I voted absentee. They sent me a ballot and I filled in the bubbles(scantron style) then mailed it back.

If I had to guess based on the primaries, I'd say they used the touchscreens.

I went to my voting place, showed them my driver's license, put my signature in a notebook next to my name, and received a big ballot and a pen.  I went to a standing booth, completed broken arrows next to the candidates and issues for which I voted, and put my ballot into a machine.  I didn't vote for things I didn't know about, like all the elections for judges in my area that I hadn't researched and didn't have time or resources in the polling place.
