Parkour Friendly Gyms
« on: October 05, 2008, 06:23:38 PM »
I don't believe we've actually set out to compile a list of places yet where one can go to train - gymnastics facilities, etc.

So that we can keep this as a valuable thread to point people to going forward, I'm going to ask that the information stay factual and unbiased (ie no advertisements, only info)

If you know of a gymnastics gym or other facility that teaches or allows Parkour, Freerunning, or Tricking training, please add it here.

In the interest of utility, please list the State, the City / Town, The name of the gym, and a link if possible, along with their offering or a brief summary.

Some helpful info would be like:
"allows adults at open gymnastics Friday nights at 7:00-8:30 for $15"

Thanks!
M2

edit by Leon: I'll be taking a  hold of these and adding them to the APK Hotspots map one day  ;)

Monkey Bar Gym
Madison, WI

Offers functional/natural training (similar to CrossFit) as well as a type of yoga designed to help athletes with various injuries related to overuse, alignment, etc. (I forgot the name but will check with Chad--it is AWESOME stuff and the only thing that fixed my hip when I injured it over a year ago).

Also offers parkour training sessions, led by Chad of Madpk (and me, sometimes). Schedule varies.

Badger Gymnastics Gym
Madison, WI
Adult Gymnastics classes Mondays 6:30-7:45
Adult Open gym Thursdays 7-8:30

So far only Chad has gone to the adult gymnastics class and he enjoys it a lot. We are working with them to set up some Madpk training sessions during their open gym but it is still very tentative. Our hope is to have a regular Madpk training session during Badger's open gym during the winter months.

I'll update this post when I have more details/info.

Cost: $6 YOU DO NOT NEED A MEMERSHIP  Members only pay $3
Where: Waukesha, WI YMCA <http://www.waukeshaymca.org/>
When: Sundays 1:00 to 3:00
Description:  I have been training there with PK Squirrel from Waukesha.  We practice in the Gymnastics Gym which has:
  Tumble Track/Runway Trampoline
  Gymnastics Spring Floor
  Padded walls
  Lots of objects to vault
  Balance beams
  Two sets of Uneven bars
Lots of soft cushy mats to make you virtually invincible.

This is one of the cheapest places I have found that allow Parkour training in their facility.
