« on: July 25, 2008, 09:24:57 PM »
Alright this is for everyone out beginner or pro traceur; How did you get started into parkour? What caused you too start?

ok so this is me:

I started into martial arts and then was watching videos on internet about MA. Then I got into tricking (which is a mix between martial arts, break dancing and gymnastics) but then i saw the revolution video and was just hooked. I really got into it wen my ex left me and i lost like all my friends so parkour was my out for all my depression and anger. So thats my story nothin special but wats yours?

On some gaming forum I used to frequent, someone posted the first Dvinsk Clan video, and I was like "Holy shit." I had never seen anything like that before, and I wanted to learn more. Since I live in the middle of nowhere, and had no experienced traceurs to practice with in my immediate area, I just kind of taught myself (With the exception of one jam I attended in Fort Collins, thanks Logan / Ryan / Grey / Sat / those two other guys!).

The French Guy in Tony Hawks American Wasteland changed my life. After experiencing parkour in THAW, I was like, "I SHOULD IMITATE WHAT I SEE ON T.V!"

And I did.

Few months later I got pretty good and kept getting better.

I started back somewhere in 2007, watching American Gladiators, and WAY before that, Ninja Warrior. I've had a real passion to compete on both/either show, so I figured out real early that a sport like this would be great training for them, it was just that I didn't know what it was called, or anything spefically like that (At the time I just figured it was basic tricking. I had no idea what its name was, let alone how vast Parkour is).

My new years resolution was to both start working out at a gym, as well as eventually compete on a show (If I could only choose one, it would be Ninja Warrior), so I began that. However, it was in May that I officially discovered Parkour, and began in June, as a birthday present to myself, training in Cottonwood Creek Park. I've since become lazy in working out, but had been practicing for the show, and practicing Parkour heavily ever since.

(On a side note, for those who watch, it was suprise and excitement when I discovered Brian O. and Levi M. are both on the APK forum, and even bigger excitement when I found out Brian and Ruselis are going to the COPK, so I'll be in the presence of greatness :D)

You lucky, lucky man...

I didn't see, or I might have missed his name. Is Levi M. going to the COPK Jam?

I was over at christians house one day and his dad had told us to check out this video,
i cant remember if it was the russian climbing or maybe one of the davinsk clan videos...
regardless i just kept looking for stuff and eventually came across the COPK website, went to the boulder classes in late 07 and have been hooked since  ;D ;D
The goal, the goal is something that shines bright.

But the path, the path seems to be the only fun part of any of it anymore.  Winding, twisting: over, under, and through.  My means and my jorney, is that where the true goal shines?

A few years back I was watching videos on stupidjunk.com or something like that. Low and Behold, the "Speed Air Man" Video pops up, leaving me awestruck and hooked. I didn't really start training until I found the COPK classes and attended. And here I am, a year or so of good training in.
