Burning Out?
« on: June 02, 2008, 02:48:59 PM »
My name is Kyper, and I think I'm burning out on Parkour.

This happened to me with Cars and Paintball, BMX, and Skateboarding before.

I dunno why but lately...I've just been uninterested in Parkour or Free Running. I've been spending a lot of time on my Motorcycle (which is the one thing I can seem to stay with through all of this) and I just am uninterested.

Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone else ever felt like they were just tired of PK? I don't know why I feel like this but I don't particularly like it. I wanna stay with Parkour but can't seem to get motivated like I used to.

Any suggestions?

I've had that experience a few times. I would suggest finding some new places to train and maybe meeting up with a group to train if you don't already. That should add a little variety to your training and hopefully get you interested again. (It worked for me last summer when I was training on my own most of the time.)

Although suggestion above may work.

To be frank and straight forwards with you, it may just not be your passion. PK/FR is just not for everyone. You need discipline and dedication. If you have been spending time on your bike and you enjoy it, that might be what you are really passionate about, so go for it. Dont push yourself to do something you dont feel motivated to do. Liking it is not enough, you have to love it, live it, want it.

I started to get bored with PK when I started to just do things as defined by other people. My workouts were structured and repetitive and the movements where predefined. I started just... having fun pretty much and PK is much more enjoyable. My friend and I now just explore random places on runs, getting close to lost but always finding our way back. It also helps you develop your skills on a whole bunch of different obstacles instead of the same place over and over again.

You may have just gotten in the monotonous training groove like I did instead of actually enjoying what you are doing. Change things up. Maybe try even throwing out your old routines and go on a run with a friend to some random place you've never been to before. You are forced to do things differently which makes things a lot more interesting.

The posts above are good advice as well, though.

Hey Kyper,

Ive had the same exact thing happen to me when i first became interested it. I was super stoked and it was all i thought about, but then all the sudden i just kinda seperated myself from it, i just kind of became disinterested. I took about a month break and then i watched another video and was just like ......... So the next week i got back out and now i have a stronger desire for PK. I suggest take a small break ride your bike let things go by in your mind, then make sure to watch a PK video later on and i promise you you'll be fine. Hope Pk is right for you but remember even if you do bail were always here for anything!
Best of Luck,

Take a look at this thread. Many of these points were brought up and debated in a very detailed manner some time in the recent past:

I did Ozzi. I really did. I still do love it, want it and live it. I don't think it's not my passion but it's just that I've just been a little tired of it. I still do love it, just at the moment I guess I'm a little tired.
