Precision Jump Tutorial
A Precision Jump involves jumping from one small area to another small area by using your whole body (arms, legs, core/torso, head) in a careful coordination to help keep balance as you land. The motion itself resembles a coil being launced in the air and then landing again, absorbing and straightening out. The jump is great for situations where you need, you guessed it, precise jumping! A good example would be from a rail to another rail where balance and coordination are key.
Begin with your legs bent, less than a full crouch, and your focus on the point of contact with the object you wish to reach. Swing your arms down and back, preparing to expode up and out.
Using the basic movement patter outlined in the jump and basic landing tutorial. Explode up and out at somewhere near a 45 degree angle, while propelling your arms towards the direction of travel. Keep focused on your landing area.
As you gain height, tuck your knees up towards your chest, maximizing jumping efficiency. Your arms will naturally swing back and down to counteract the force of the jump and help retain your upright position.
If you've kept complete focus on the landing area throughout the movement, you will be aware of the moment when you will need to untuck and reach your feet towards the point of contact. Follow the steps for a straight landing; reaching with your legs and feet to absorb with your ankles, knees and hips
If you began to untuck at the right moment, you will have been leaning slightly backwards, at this point in the landing, your momentum going into the object will begin to carry you towards vertical. Continue to compress to absorb the shock while exhaling and keeping your stomach tight (this aids in a controlled and properly-absorptive landing)
Once you have the coordination down, you will be able to jump just enough to get you to the object without any extraneous momentum. As you absorb the impact, your arms will swing forward to conteract the last bit of momentum, thus leaving you in complete control.
